I don't really give a sod anymore. Those Commodore machines are a f**king steal.

Yeah they don't look too bad at all. Bargain Bucket components for the base line models though. Pair of 8600 GTS instead of 8800. That number makes a big difference in performance. A pair in SLI will make a difference though, still I'd rather take a single 8800GTX, considering not a lot uses SLi just yet.

Mobo is quite old too, the Intel ones are better. Still its a good value rig if nothing else.

I too would go for a single 8800 and pay the bit extra. Get another one later down the road.

As for the chipset, I'm sure I posted a link to a story a few weeks back which discovered that - as far as gaming is concerned - there's very little benefit in coughing up for the 680i chipset.

Those Commodore machines rock and I'm going to buy one before the year is out!!!

Unless you are into overclocking where the faster speeds possible on later boards start o show their promise. Still, for vanilla system the Commodores aren't bad, although I think I'll be going for a different rig.

I have even less patience for self-built PCs than I used to, having suffered the slow painful demise of my current rig. the Commodore rigs are off-the-shelf and of exactly the same spec that I was considering buying before I opted to go on the US trip instead.

Oh yeah. Did I mention I'm off to New York on Saturday? Woohoo!!!

Indeed. Though apparently it's 'too much hassle' for JC to bring his mactop*, so I'll have to spill my load on my return instead...

*i.e. he's not web 2.0 enough.
