And no amount of cynical meddling/ spoiling from the Msoft camp could stop it....hurrah. This is all good, because as one format becomes the norm, hi-def becomes more popular, and the choice of films will get bigger, and (even more importantly) the price of discs will drop.
Upscaled DVD is all well and good, but you ain't seen nothing until you've watched a Blu-Ray version of the same film. It's so much sharper, richer and more detailed. I can't wait for 'I Am Legend's' release on BR.
PS3 + Samsung 42" Plasma + Sony 5.1 home cinema FTW. :)

Will the HD version of Legend include the extra 30 minutes or so of action missing from the cinema release?
Even Blu-Ray can't polish tudds that well :)
You are f**king insane m8.
Why does that link take me to a story about Kosovon independance?
Why, because the format with the most space and industry support toppled the one headed by Toshiba and their dithering non-commital format-saboteur of a business buddy...Msoft?
Whatever dude...You just keep toking on Bil Gate's slim panatella. I'm just glad that hi-def movies will finally take off, with or without Msoft clouding the issue by stoking a format war HD DVD had no chance of ever winning. You do realise that they wanted the disc format to be superceded by digital downloads, and didn't actually care about HD DVD one way or the other?

Not disputing it at all. My comment was regarding the apparent randomness of the article you were linking to lol.
No, I totally realise Blu-ray has won the format race. How could they fail, with a games console championing it as as the format of the future as standard. Had the Xbox 360 taken that path with HD DVD the outcome could have been quite different indeed, with 17.7 million punters already lining their shelves with HD DVDs.
The thing is - and I'm merely reciting Edge's recent feature about the future of Xbox 360 here - The 360 is merely a part of M$'s long-term strategy. They wanted a piece of the gaming pie and they've done very respectably so far.
They'll no doubt get involved with Blu-ray soon enough, but not for Xbox games until the next iteration of hardware. Which will no doubt come along in PS3's lifespan - and utterly blow it away well before Sony can come up with a combative solution...

Oh dear...
I know it's like he thinks releasing twice the number of consoles at 75% of the price with half the utility is a good thing.

LOL...oh that! I think it's a URL linking to their default English language front page. It used to be about HD DVD, trust me :)

""We do not believe the recent reports about HD DVD will have any material impact on the Xbox 360 platform or our position in the marketplace, As we've long stated, we believe it is games that sell consoles, and Xbox 360 continues to have the largest next-gen games library with the most exclusives and best selling games in the industry."

They've been outsold in USA/ EU/ Jpn the last month...by PS3. Their position is tenuous now, especially with the runaway success this Blu-Ray business almost guarantees for the PS3. 10.5 million PS3s sold (not shipped a la Msoft numbers) in time to meet their projected 11 million by March. They beat Msoft to the 1 million sold punch in UK in a similar time frame...beating the PS2's record in the process. Many people have been far too quick to right off Sony, let's face it.
I think Msoft are being very bullish in the face of rather a fierce fightback from the Sone.
Oh, and their consoles are still fubarring...this time in front of the world's gaming press at the GDC.
