I recently read something in which a game developer was complaining that WoW had pretty much destroyed the MMO Industry. There's literally no way a game can penetrate the market in sufficient numbers for the business model to work etc.

This game better be f**king amazing or it doesn't stand a chance. I mean, you'd think if any other franchise would work in this genre it would be LOTR, which in many ways is identical to WoW. Yet no one here can be alfed to play it...

How can Conan fare any better?

But we're cynical time-challenged mofos here (mostly) - I've tried LOTR, but the tedium of the franchise and the WoW-ness of it made WoW a better option for me.

Not sure how your WoW server is, but Moonglade seems to be 90% lvl 70s, 5% 40-60s and 5% alts sitting by the AHs - the Blizzard figures for WoW are always impressive, but who's still playing? Are there really X-million players sitting at lvl 70 waiting for the next expansion?

WoW is only killing time for me until AoC is released - I don't know enough about Conan lore to be a fanboy, but it looks delicious and if they can pull the combat off as they intend, may be more hands-on than WoW.

It's gonna need more than oil-painting scenery is all...

My personal bet on a potential WoW beater would be Warhammer Online. I'm more interested in that than any other MMOG TBH.
