Rage won't fit onto 2 Xbox 360 discs. Doom 4 to be 3 times more demanding... It's easy to wonder if Carmack's discovered time travel sometimes...

What does the time travel comment mean?
Rage and Doom 4 all well and good, but FFS when is QuakeLive going to be up and running???
Looking forward to some browser-based Q3 at lunchtimes

He also says Blu-Ray will win the day in graphics, as in it will provide better graphics for his games on PS3 over the 360 version, due to more storage equalling better textures.
Looks like Sony weren't as dumb running marathons over a sprint as Msoft would like you to think:

Plus EA selling more on PS3 than on Xbox 360, and Activision prediction 2:1 victory of PS3 over 360...THIS year.
Looks like you chose the right time to finally wake up, Bobster

If anyone saw the doc on the BBC where whatsherface interviewed the Dark Lord Gates as he was preparing to retire, it does seem M$ have a single mission statement:
"whatever we do, saturate the market with it, and fix it later"
They can of course afford to do this, because they have marketing budgets in the uberzillions, so can tell those who don't mind being told "buy this, it's FAB!".
This isn't a bad thing - get bums on seats, you have a userbase to get feedback from, to sell more stuff to.
But it does mean that people should not be surprised when a competitor (Sony in this case) takes their time, gets stuff right (or better), doesn't care about the initial "yeah, but my TV is bigger than YOUR TV!!!" sales figures during the fanboy stampede on Day One etc etc.
The irony is that the 360 will become the console equivalent... of owning a PC. Everyone will have one. Everyone will play a few games on it. But because of it's shortcomings as an *actual* next-gen console (not just the first next-gen console), people will spend more time on their *other* consoles.
IMHO.
ps. i'll still get a 360 when it's much cheaper.
pps. then a PS3 when it's cheaper than a 360

I enjoy having a 360 because it does everything that my PC used to do. The fact that it's packed up once in the 3 years I've had it is a small annoyance compared to the overall 'high maintenance' associated with a PC.
The PS3 is dessert at the moment. It's a gorgeous high tech piece of kit that I have little use for at the moment. I still don't see the sense in owning one yet. There still aren't enough games out to justify the price tag. If I hadn't 'acquired' my PS3 I still wouldn't have bought one yet. I spend literally no time on it at all. It's just a bluray player to me.
I know it will go the distance, but Sony's 10 year plan means it takes about 2-3 years to get going and then another 2-3 years of slow painful demise when PS4 comes out. 10 years does sound amazing - and for Sony I'm sure it's very profitable. It seems M$ have minimised the slow start-up/wind-down period to a mere few months.
The news above has raised an eyebrow though. If there's any developer out there to challenge the future-proofness of a console then it's gonna be Id. I wouldn't be suprised if a new Xbox comes out in the next couple of years...

And there you have your reason to have a PS3... Your next lesson begins in half an hour, don't be late.

What reason do I have for Blu Ray though? I only have a 24" screen!

Buy a bigger screen then FFS!!

I would like a 42" LCD for the lounge. I'd put the PS3 down there if I did. I miss armchair console gaming...
Do it! Do it now! Get to the choppah.
The only thing you need under a 42 incher is a PS3, and you knows it.
