It's lazy marketing.
People have the choice whether they buy the game, and skip the "offending" section.
Just as people have the choice to say "I remember when Infinity Ward made games that stood up without having to resort to free ads in the Daily Mail".

I'm guessing everyone's already heard about the Xbox / PS3 price war on MW2. If not: http://www.guardian.co.uk/money/2009/nov/09/call-of-duty-modern-warfare-price-war £26 at certain Sainbury's stores and £25 at all Tesco stores if you buy another top 20 chart game at the same time.
The PC version is actually more expensive for a change - cheapest I've seem it so far is £31 from Amazon.

Amusingly Amazon have knocked a further £1.55p off the PC version since this morning (now £29.70p).
I'll wait for the budget re-release. Maybe. Humbug etc.
