gta4.net — No planes, but flying is in the game (helicopters one of 'em) and climbing telephone polls. Yes, telephone polls.

- franklinbluth, on 10/12/2007, -15/+9Can't wait for this game! Take that Jackass Thompson!
- walkingdogs, on 10/12/2007, -3/+42HMMMM.... takes place in NY and there are no planes in this version. I wonder why.
- Yoshi39, on 10/12/2007, -3/+5Still that's not a valid excuse that is self censorship!
- chucksmooth, on 10/12/2007, -4/+1we all better get used to it, unfortunately
- op12, on 10/12/2007, -1/+16Does this mean Thomp Jackson is going to start ranting about how real-life violence inspires video game violence?
- MackDiesel2010, on 10/12/2007, -5/+2They may be taking out the games because it was such an ill-conceived aspect, with no need for them. In San Andreas, the harrier was way too fast and stupid to be any fun. The other planes were also no fun. If you want to get six stars and wreak havok on the people, there is nothing better than the slow moving apache helos, or the little birds with side guns. The planes just get old real quick.
- Jozer99, on 10/12/2007, -7/+1@walkingdogs
GTA III came out after 9/11 and it had planes. As did the other two GTA III trilogy games. They were never all that great though, so it makes sense to get rid of them. - walkingdogs, on 10/12/2007, -4/+1@Jozer99
But those didn't take place in NY where 9/11 went down. - Smeed, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7Yeah but the plane in GTAIII wing's were clipped it. It took a little trial and error to fly it.
- acdcfanbill, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5"but I can confirm that there are female pedestrians in the game. There’s a ton of ‘em, too. They shop. They talk. They even wear clothing."
wear clothing? aww dammit! - str3ama, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1remember that story on a gamespot blog a little while back? I think that guy was right, he predicted it pretty well - he said the real character is Roman, not Nikov..and he said that planes aren't in the game, but helicopters are..hmmm ..
also the telephone poll thing probably has to do with a mission where you have to sneak into an apartment, and then from there it gets enabled and allows you to enter interiors of buildings (it's better for the designers, since they don't have to create a multi-layer building interior - instead they can just design and create a few interiors that get repeated throughout the city.
- Dan11023, on 10/12/2007, -7/+3cant wait
- rcomegys, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Me either. Though this Q&A had me a bit worried is it doesn't mention the PS3 anywhere. Downloadable content through Xbox Live, etc, but no mention of expandable PS3 content. Also, I wonder if the PS3 will just be getting a port of the Xbox version or not.
- DarkJC, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Rockstar previously announced that both the 360 and PS3 version would be getting exclusive downloadable content, so the PS3 will get it but it will be different content from the 360.
Unless things have changed of course.
- exick, on 10/12/2007, -13/+0See, told you dummies that you'd be able to fly.
http://www.digg.com/gaming_news/GTA_IV_gets_Google_Mapped#c6248876- artofwar420, on 10/12/2007, -5/+2Don't ***** call me a dummy.
- MatchStick, on 10/12/2007, -2/+14this game makes me want a 360, guess i'll wait for the fall price drop.
- Timmaay, on 10/12/2007, -1/+12Sweet, climbing telephones is so useful, can't wait for that.
- Chaos12, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6It'll be used to climb on top of small buildings or to reach balconies.
- orientis, on 10/12/2007, -1/+16Just to get it in before anyone else does: Telephone polls? What's the question?
- LatvianHedgehog, on 10/12/2007, -7/+6Perhaps "How to write number 4 correctly in roman numerals" ?
- YmerejO42, on 10/12/2007, -6/+3@LatvianHedgehog:
Perhaps "How to write number 4 correctly in roman numerals" ?
OK, so how would you write it? Last time I checked, IV was the way it's supposed to be written. - Zm3r3, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7I think LatvianHedgehog was referring to GTA VI details that were 'leaked' earlier this week!
- Niffer, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4I climbed a telephone poll once but it didn't cure my dyslexia
- olddirtycr, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Dugg for more information, but maybe 5% of the questions asked were actually answered with real factual information.... (The rest were "I'd imagine so..."
- code601, on 10/12/2007, -0/+37POLES!!! We aint as smart as the slashdot crowds, but come on "POLLS"??????
- crashflow, on 10/12/2007, -0/+22apparently, in the game you have the ability to affect nielsen ratings.
- op12, on 10/12/2007, -0/+13The fact that the typo was repeated didn't help to overlook it either :)
- nanoware, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2I don't know, i would have to say, a pretty much exact replica of NYC and people with free will flying planes in GTA is not a good combo. I think there covering there asses, cant have a 9/11 in a video game, next thing you know some kids gonna fly into a tower and blame GTA, we don't need that.
- op12, on 10/12/2007, -7/+2bury this
- reed311, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10They should also take out handguns because many people are killed by handguns in New York every year. Also they should take out cars because several people die in car accidents.
This game is a work of fiction, in a fictional city. Lets start censoring certain plot points in books while we're at it. - spyrochaete, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2Microsoft delayed release of Flight Simulator 8 to remove the Word Trade Center. These things happen.
- SafetyHelmet, on 10/12/2007, -2/+11P O L E S
- mykos, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10I had a teacher in middle school who would take twice the points away if we misspelled a word that was already spelled out on the page.
- robharper, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1I take it that she wasn't as harsh on grammar?
- thenewnoise, on 10/12/2007, -4/+7Am I the only one who has a hard time reading the white letter and black background. All the letters blurred together after a min.
- Double-Z, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Nope, I found that too. I did CRTL-A to invert the text to make it more easy on the eyes.
- spyrochaete, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5It's supposed to be easier to read, actually. Monitors emit light so the more white there is on the screen, the harder it is on your eyes. Paper reflects natural light so dark text relieves your eyes and provides contrast.
That's why Unix and MSDOS and most other text-based operating systems are white-on-back. - DarkJC, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Bright white on dark is not easier to read. It should be a dimmer white/more greyish, otherwise it's still a pain. See Maddox's site, the text is big and easy to read and isn't full on white to blind you either.
Also you'll notice that the text in Unix/DOS is actually greyish.
- HerrSchnuff, on 10/12/2007, -4/+1White text on black background....
my eyes are burning - estacado, on 10/12/2007, -4/+2Ooh... climbing telephone polls /sarcasm
Get a life. I bet fanboys would go crazy if they could fart in the the game.- Macuyiko, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7I think you could actually do that in GTA 1.
- theotherme, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3finally........a pole climbing simulator
- DarkReign16, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2To sum up the Q&A:
Q: Can you tell us about the game?
A: What, I don't know, you like chicks? sit down and shut up! - spyrochaete, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3I can't believe there were no questions about the soundtrack, not that this guy had answers to intimate details.
- matrixkitty, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1The poles are in. Any mention of climbing telephone polls = Instant Digg
- shellwe, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Okay... my biggest question is when is it coming out for the PC? I am not gonna drop no 400 or 600 on a gaming console...
Shawn - xSEED, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2yeah 9/11 is long forgotten as americans have returned to being selfish fatasses
ie not an excuse - TheBSG, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Summary:
I really don't know anything at all, it just looks cool. - Vassili84, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2yes thats all good but the question in everyones mind is will there be hot coffee?
- Ishywoo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1This is great..I love the GTA Series...Now that GTA IV has a Russian dude, can I get a main character that is a female in GTA V??
- Slackage, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3This article didn't tell me nothing other than saying there will be no airplanes. A lot of these answers were
-"Rockstar hasn’t announced anything yet..."
-"...so I won’t go into the detail on that..."
-"Rockstar wouldn’t say outright..."
-"Rockstar wouldn’t reveal anything in the demo..."
-"Again, no specifics were given..."
-"Dan wouldn’t go into specifics on this one..."
Hell, I could be the answer guy and come up with the same responce or better, Andrew Reiner knows nothing.
But hey, thats my opinion. - MisterFlaut, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1"As Dan pointed out, this is just one city and a plane really doesn’t fit into that very well for gameplay. Flying is still very much a large part of the game."
Um, what?
If it's based on NYC, there's tons of fun things in GTA you can do, like fly planes into skyscrapers.
...or are they pussing out for that very reason?
Please. This game is THE controversial game. Let's push the limits and make parents cry. - TimDigg, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3See what I'm hoping for is an 18 wheeler and when you press R3 he turns into Optimus Prime
one can only hope... - fatalfuj, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Given the choice of any question, here's the very cream:
"I just wanted to know when GTA IV for Xbox 360 will be in stores in Quebec, Canada. " - dollarbillz1193, on 10/11/2007, -0/+0I have a few questions. First can you eat and drink like in GTA San Andreas? Can you get high and drunk like in Saints Row? Is their different types of clothing you can buy? Do you know what the vehicle customization is like? Can you build a custom radio station also like GTA San Andreas? If you swim or get dirty does it show the water or dirt on him? Do you know if you have to fill up gas in the car? Are their mini games like in Saints Row like the Snatch or Hitman?
