'Battlestar Galactica': Say it ain't frakkin so!

04:04 PM PT, May 31 2007

Battle

Sad but true: "Battlestar Galactica" will end its run next year after its fourth and final season.

After weeks of speculation, the end is in fact near. According to a high level source at Sci Fi Channel parent company NBC Universal, the show will dock after its next 22-episode season, slated to kick off in early 2008.

Sources say the decision came down from executive producers Ronald D. Moore and David Eick, who are said to feel creatively like this upcoming arc will be its last.

Rumors began circulating this month when two "Battlestar Galactica" stars, Edward James Olmos and Katee Sackhoff, referred to the next season as the show's swan song while attending the annual Saturn Awards.

“It’s the final season, so it’s definitely going to be the most vicious,” Olmos told reporters.  “As far as we know, in respects of the way we have this show constructed, this is the final season.”

Sci Fi Channel is expected to announce the news as soon as this afternoon.

UPDATE: Minutes after this was posted, Sci Fi Channel sent us the press release confirming the show is ending. See what Eick and Moore have to say after the jump...

"This show was always meant to have a beginning, a middle and finally, an end. Over the course of the last year, the story and the characters have been moving strongly toward that end and we've decided to listen to those internal voices and conclude the show on our own terms," Eick and Moore said in the statement. "And while we know our fans will be saddened to know the end is coming, they should brace themselves for a wild ride getting there –- we're going out with a bang ."

Frakk!!! Finally a show with some intelligence and some depth of storyline and characters, and they're going to kill it. I guess they make it to Earth.....or do they? It's hard to believe that there's enough paychecks from other studios that the BG writers can't substantiate at least one more season to try to hold their jobs. They have to be charging enough for commercial airtime to make it worthwhile for the network to keep one of the best shows on the air for a while longer.
OK, on my mark...........

Are you frakkin kidding me? I can't even stand to wait until the next seasons start and now it will be over for good!?!?!? What else could even compare to this show?

Actually I think this is fantastic news, since it's very annoying when shows are allowed to just drag on and on until they are no longer profitable.

X-files was once a fun show, and it turned to crap because they didn't know when to quit, and Lost seems to be heading the same way.

I respect the show's producers for doing this more so for the quality than for the sake of just keeping it up. I was at first skepticle about BSG since I was a childhood fan of the original. It grew beyond my expectations with the intricate storyline, plot and character development, and mythology...and yeah some hot ladies. Even normal people who didn't like sci-fi were into this show for some of those very reasons. I thought this show would go on and on a la 24 but I'm happy to see it's going to end off in a high and set a standard for future sci-fi programming.

The story has an ending, I would hate for the show to loose its luster because they were trying to pad a single season's worth of plot into two. I like the show, but I am glad they are bringing it to a close when they feel it is appropriate.

eddie, shows everyone but in the us these days end. when they first pitch the show, they have a book called a bible, thats basically the base plot line, from beginning to end. they arent going to try and hold on for one more season, thats when shows go downhill. the story is over, so they will end it.

and then, SPINOFFS!

(its the difference between star trek tng and ds9.. they brought ds9 to a closing arc. they didnt with tng, and it just faded out. )

I love BG but I'm glad that the creators aren't so craven nor stupid to try to milk it and destroy the series.

-SH.

Many of us space dreamers know that shows with a real human view of future life with reason and intelligence are allways targets for fundamentalist and idiots. This is a good indicator of how much of our Amercian society can not think and comprehend gooD DRAMA.

Well it's about goddamn time. Season 1 of the new BSG was really strong; season 2 wasn't quite as strong but still pretty good, and then?

Then came season 3, and with it, an infestation known as The Angst.

In which, after about 4 or 5 episodes, nothing of any note WHATSOEVER happened. In which characters ceased developing in any meaningful way, but managed to increase the amount of time they spent whining by a factor of about 10. In which, for no very clear reason, characters started acting out of character to serve that which was laughably referred to as a plot.

Frankly, I'm GLAD season 4 will be the last season. There's a chance there might be enough actual STORY this way around for me to enjoy the series. Because season 3 was basically The OC in space, only more annoying.

NOOOOOOOOOO!!!! Hire some frakkin writers!!!! This is the best show on television! What are they thinking????
FRAAAAKKKKKKKK!

I am so truly saddened by this development! Finally, there's a REAL show on TV that is brilliant in everyway, characters, acting, writing, fx, the entire package, and it's going away. I'll be sad to see it go, but considering the quality put into it, i'm happy that the producers would rather see the show "burn out than fade away". This show will go down in history as one of the best shows of all time. Congrats to the cast, sci-fi, writers, fx crews for bringing the best show on television to us. Even better than, dare I say, 24!? (It's much better than 24, and I love that show too...)

"Lt. Kara 'Starbuck' Thrace: [Starbuck's filling in for Apollo at the squadron briefing] Now, one of you has been coming in a little hot lately, a little too hot, a little, um - oh I don't know, he's-burning-up-the-deck-with-his-skids-because-he-just-can't-pull-back-on-the-throttle hot. Now who is this speed demon, my prince?
Boxey: Flat Top, sir!
[the squadron catcalls]
Lt. Kara 'Starbuck' Thrace: Flat Top, you got a need for speed, do ya? Just can't wait to get back to the Big G and the loving embrace of your fellow pilots? Or maybe you have a hot date with your right hand?
[more catcalls]
Ryan 'Flat Top' Cisco: Hey, it never gets a headache!
Lt. Kara 'Starbuck' Thrace: Tell you what, Flat Top: you come in too hot today and you may have to start using your left. Okay, you've been fun, you've been a great audience, dismissed!"

I am so depressed. I love this show. It is definitely one of the best in years.

Aww...frak.

At least we know it's coming. Unlike when Farscape got the rug pulled from under them. (Yes, I'm still a little bitter about that.)

But on the bright side, you want to have the best memory of the show. You don't want be sitting there, bazillian seasons later, thinking, "Ugh! Can please end this already?"

Well, the way I feel about "Lost" right now.

So, go with the gods, BG. I'll miss you Sam and Apollo... ;-)

I love Battlestar Galactica, but maybe it's for the best that it's ending. Think about the last couple seasons of The Sopranos: They sucked because the writers were stretching out the story. Things only gained momentum and got good when the writers were able to bring the story to an end.

Hopefully reruns of this will someday be broadcast in HD. Anything actually worth watching on TV is never worth stretching out past 3 seasons, think 'Twin Peaks' or 'Freaks and Geeks'. Oh well, another one for the DVD collection.

A very sad day for television. Battlestar Galactica is by far one of the best shows on television. Where most shows (like 24 and Lost) seem like they are repeating themselves season after season, Battlestar always comes out new and fresh. The characters are well developed and each have their own demons to deal with throughout a season. Television is losing a spectacular show. Time to buy the DVD's.

People remember the shows that ended awesomely as some of the best shows ever, not the ones that dragged on until we were all tired of it. This will be hailed as one of the best TV series of all time for years to come, and thats how it should be. Good decision NBC.

You know, this shouldn't be a surprised and you know what. ended after 4 seasons should be upsetting to anyone.

BSG was a great show with a wild ride and hit a lot of good hard points and even impacted global culture. Plus 4 seasons means it didn't over stay its welcome, but has a future. Mark my words.

Galactica will Ride Again!

This is a good thing as I see it.
They will properly be able to finish the series and not rush an ending that sucks. IE: voyager, farscape, and SG-1.

Gato

Yes!! the title of the article saddened me but the comments by the producers are getting me ultra excited.

how many times has a successful and good series been stretched to its breaking point just because it can continue to make money? BSG is a true saga and a good story, and like any good story, the ending can't be pulled out of nowhere whenever the author feels like it/after it becomes so bad it gets cancelled; it needs to be planned. I'm glad the producers are going the quality route instead of letting the series rot in order to make money.

season 3 bring it on!!!

BSG is an amazing show, but all shows should be so lucky as to end on their own terms. It's not always about ratings, advertising and money. For truly creative people it's about telling the story they want to tell and being proud of what they've done. BSG can soon join the ranks of intelligent shows created by intelligent & creative writers who knew to stop before it became hokey.

This show got really bad and boring in the last season. worse then a soap opera.

A space show with no space, no starts no explosions, no battles
WTF!!!

Hopefully the last seasonb is better

four seasons is a good run. the creators are right that the show does seem to be wrapping up thematically. think about it this way, at 22 epsiodes per season and 4 seasons, that's 88 episodes. plus the 3-episode miniseries, that's 91 episodes. the sopranos, which finishes up in a couple of weeks, only had 13 episodes per season for 6 seasons, totalling 78 episodes.

i may be off on my math by a few episodes, but battlestar had a great run and is wrapping up where it should.

Let it have a legitimate end and not jump the shark, which some believe may already be too late with that season 3 ending. Otherwise, it just gets beat to death until they audience will not even care about the ridiculous gimmicks just to keep those last die hard fans coming back.

Say it aint so .... wiping a tear from da eye ... It's great to see from all the comments that some people still know a great show when it comes around. I really enjoyed this show and got wifey hooked on it too. We need more shows like it. I haven't even watched BG because I've learned to wait for the whole season on DVD. Wifey and I just stay up late watching episode after episode until we're too tired or other activities take over ...Its such a great show!

jordon,

Just to clear things up, the first season had 13 episodes and seasons 2 & 3 each had 20. That plus the 22-episode fourth season gives you 75 episodes.

Add in the "miniseries" (which is, lengthwise, the equivalent of 4 episodes), and you can call it 79 episodes, the same length as the run of the original Star Trek. I'm sure it's not intentional, but it's kind of cool in a geeky sort of way.

Personally, I think it's great to see shows setting end points well enough in advance so as to allow for a solid ending without overstaying its welcome. BSG and Lost are my two favorite shows right now, and I'm glad they've both set these end points. I'm excited for the ride that's coming!

As sorry as I'll be to see it go, I'm glad they're going to wrap things up. All stories need to end (do you hear me, LOST?), and it's better to end it with a bang.

All good things must end. It is sad that they wont make any more seasons after the next one but usually this sort of thing tends to make that last season better. It means that they can set a goal and reach it, and not languish about and drag out the story to the point where they could loose the audience, or worse yet the actors. (x-files) better to go out in a blaze of glory than to fade into mediocrity.
Also i have to say that it is a good thing that BSG is allowed to finish. I know the Jericho and Carnivale fans out there would agree with me on that one. better for the writers and the producers have time to plan out an ending rather than to have the show cut down on a cliffhanger.
I will miss bsg but at least i won't be annoyed by an unresolved story line.

Never got into this show. I don't care what they claim, the show was going nowhere and i think they knew it and that's why it's going. The writers don't even know what's going on any more.

Sort of like what happened to chris carter and X-Files.

So B-5 still rules all it surveys.

I guess SciFi will replace it with whatever crap they can churn out of Casper Van Diem or Stephen Baldwin... Damn, that channel eats it young. I can barely stomach watching it.

I am completely at a lost here. This is the worst and best news I heard from any tv show I heard since ever. This show is at least ten times better than any crap out there. It is good they want to keep their edge and momentum but just one more season?!! There got to be at least two more season of material out there. I hope to god they try to make a good spinoff from the shrapel when this show come to its explosive end. You know it would be a unbelievable with most not surviving.

This is SAD... but not wholly unexpected.

The show's quality, while incredible early on, started to slip not long after they went to the 20-episodes per season format. This started to happen late in the Season 2, and became really obvious in the course of Season 3.

Still, a better solution for the show would've been to go back to the 13-episodes per season format that served them so well in Season 1. There was enough time to make every episode 'special'. Sure, there were still a couple of misfires, but not nearly as bad as what came later on. Much of Season 3 is almost unwatchable, because it's such a letdown compared to how the show was through the Miniseries, S1, and much of Season 2.

With 22 eppys to do in Season 4, I am NOT confident that they'll 'get it right' down the stretch. They'll have more story to work with, but the time pressures will be worse than ever.

It's just really sad that it had to go down this way, but the writing was on the wall two years ago. Ron Moore and David Eick are very talented people, but they should have gone back to the way things were before the show became 'broken', rather than just killing it off after what's going to be a rushed S4.

frak

>So B-5 still rules all it surveys.

You're kidding, right?

I'm glad these people are showing some brains and ending it before they run out of story. It may be disappointing, but they still have that spinoff series in the works with Adama's father. I think it was called "Cylons".

I was a huge fan of the show, and I havent missed a single episode since the miniseries, but it was time.

Season 3 was awful. there was hardly any of the cool space combat that got me into it the first season. this was a show that was a space drama with combat. season 3 was just ridiculous drama and no combat. the edge was lost and nothing meaningful happened until the last 15 minutes of the final episode.

being a huge farscape fan, im glad the creators are getting an entire season to finish, instead of a movie where every 15 minute block could have been better done as its own episode.

ITs over?!?! Greatest show since Firefly and poof its gone :( And crap like Stargate goes on for decades? Where is the justice?!?!

Let's face it, folks... the show has been on life support since the middle of Season 3. The story began to wander with "The Eye of Jupiter" and didn't regain focus until the end of "Crossroads, Pt. 2." It's good that they will wrap things up sooner rather than later. Bring on Season 4!

I'm sort of glad the creators are smart enough to end their show on their own terms. Nobody enjoys it when Scifi drops the axe on their favorite series.

I personally hate the Sci Fi network. They cancel great shows like Farscape or Stargate Sg-1 so they can bring on new shows that suck. (Like Painkiller Jane)

If BSG kept going the cost of the show would probably jump due to increased costs of paying the stars.

Also, i'd imagine the creators realize that they'll reach the 70 something episode mark that usually brings in great syndication revenue.

Also, they probably want to put all their creativity into their new BSG prequel series Caprica.

Much as I love Galactica I think its probably for the best that they are doing this. There is only so much mileage you can get from the story of a group of humans searching for earth while being chased by a superior force of robots before it becomes laboured.

The series still leaves room for spinoffs such as the caprica series so the series can live on in other ways

This sucks. Especially since it has some of the best (if not the best) ratings of all cable shows. Seems like all the good shows are getting cancelled these days.

To the quality producers and writers - thanks for doing it right. They created a great show with depth and quality, and they are ending it properly - I completely respect that. I love the show - I think its one of the best ever.

Amen to Do it the RIGHT!!
-D

I say let BSG jump the shark a million times - better than anything else on TV sharky-wise.

I'm glad I don't live in the USA. SciFi Channel seems to suck. First they cancel SG-1, and Now BSG. Why don't they just get rid of Science Fiction TV altogether, and run 24/7 wrestling marathons.

For crying out loud, get it right Scifi

what's going on - this is one of only a small handful of good shows on TV today. My mind will officially turn to mush when BG goes off the air. ARGH!

To be honest, I'm glad it's coming to an end. I've followed Battlestar Galactica since it first aired on television and I was hooked after the mini-series. I'm a proud owner of the soundtracks & dvd season boxsets.

I've always hoped that Ronald D. Moore and David Eick wouldn't allow the show to drag on and on and slowly die a painful and dishonorable death. I've always secretly hoped that they would end the series on their terms and in less than five seasons.

Battlestar Galactica unlike so many television shows today has told an awesome story. It's had the beginning, the middile, and now is coming to an end. It is by far the best television show ever created (and yes, it's a lot better than Stargate SG-1).

I am looking forward to this last and final season. =)

this is a good thing, as was said before the x-files lost it, lost has lost it and it seems that sci-fi series seem to go on too long because somebody wants to keep eyes glued to their particular station. what is wrong with ending on a good final note instead of letting a series trail off into uninteresting arenas that cause watchers to turn off? well what about making a new series of something different that wil potentially bring more fans aboard and collect the old series' fans too!
a great example of a short run yet cult and extremely interesting scifi is Quatermass, any of the individual series story arcs are self contained and bear no relation to the previous story arcs. kind of like a graphic novel it ends and a new one begins.
this seems to have been the original intention in Heroes but is being superceded by the need to have a familiar set of characters for the second series. so Battlestar Galactica is a four series graphic novel as was originally conceived. it has a beginning, middle and end. things like this canot go on indefinately, it is the nature of story to finish, look at any long running soap opera and you see the story repeat quite frequently. this makes the daily life of the characters appealing to us but they are living daily life, something like a sci-fi series is generally a set of unlikely story elements for daily life and as such the spectacle of the thing will very quickly become stale and increasingly ridiculous as the ante is upped and and the climax of the story is logically mangled until the endgame is beyond even escapist fictions believability and thus the audience is left with a bad taste in ther mouths as to the whole of the story not just the end, this could easily damage dvd sales. if anyone is listening maybe that will grab attention.

For everyone commenting on Lost, it has already been decided that the series will end after a specific number of episodes.

There are three more season of sixteen episodes each. The defined length will allow the writers to know when/how to reveal the remaining story and mysteries. The shorter seasons will mean that a season arc won't be padded with a handful of fluff episodes.

I have to agree with some posters here that 20 episodes were grueling to do. All you have to do is listen to Moore's podcasts the man was drained. I say go with 26, and extra 4 and split it 13 this coming fall and the 13 the following. It would allow some breathing space to make season 4.0 and 5.0 the best! All is not lost either, there are back stories on the first Cylon war and Earth itself.

A truly sad development, may the gods be with you...

Actually, the Universal HD channel (UHD) is airing season 3 shows Saturdays at 9 and 12pm.

I know what some of you mean when u say it's good that the producers of BSG are not inclined to drag this show out after they have run out of ideas like the producers of the X-Files did, but I would hardly call going beyond a 4th yr, "dragging it out." I for one to spite the fact that I watched the show faithfully can't honestly say I will be sad to see it go. The storyline was confusing not smart like B5 and there were some things that was done on that show that didn't make sense. Stopping at New Caprica knowing full well that eventually the Cylons would show up and the biggest frak-up of all, trusting Baltar, the most untrustworthy person ever to run their Cylon screening program! Smart! I guess Ronald D. Moore used up all his ideas with Star Trek and had nothing left in the tank for BSG. Hopefully next time Glen A. Larson will get lucky and someone fresh ideas will take the helm when Buck Rogers and The Fall Guy are taken off the self. This show to spite the best efforts of the producers wasn't as smart as B5 and wasn't as fun as Star Trek or Stargate and when I watch that last episode I have no doubt that I will have that same feeling I had when I watched the last episode of Seinfeld! It should have been better! Now maybe someone can do a Lord of the Rings type trilogy which is what I was looking for in the first and not just some low buget TV show and a cable one at that!

A lot of people are upset and saying "Get it right...They cancel good shows to bring on ones that suck..." I have one question for them: "Do you not remember Galactica 1980, or was it so bad that you had to forget?" I am a huge fan of the original BSG and was not thrilled at the reimagining at first. However, as I made myself sit and watch it for the first couple of episodes, I decided it wasn't so bad. As I watched further, I became hooked like the rest of you, and am now hoping history doesn't repeat itself. End on a popularity highnote, and not when we are begging them to kill it off. So many shows I have enjoyed for the first couple of seasons, but now I won't revisit because it was stretched out so long (or the spinoff was so disappointing) that it left a bad taste in my mouth (ie: Stargate, X-files, Enterprise, etc). All good things must come to and end. Wise choice in wrapping it up.

It's about time the AXE came down on this show. Season 1 started pretty strong, but then the writers lost their minds with the Pegasus episodes and the stupid female Admiral. Then we had to deal with the whining characters and the ridiculous Presidential election, followed by the insane settlement on New Caprica. That's when the show jumped the shark and every major character started to suck. And then we find out that 3 major characters were Cylons and they totally lost me (I know it's 4 characters, but I don't count the President's assistant). The writing was taking a nose-first dive into Crapville and now we have Starbuck and Apollo screwing around. The season 3 finale pretty much sucked in my opinion and the show lost what little edge it had.

This show deserves to be canned.

Good riddance to bad rubbish. With the crappy Season 3 ending, this show was doomed anyway. The show was suffering from horrific writing and piss-poor character development since Season 2. The characters were inconsistent and right-down boring at times. How many episodes can you stretch out with Starbuck being on the rag and hating the world? And how many episodes did we have with Lee "The Wuss" Adama doing unbelievable things? A defense lawyer? Give me a freakin' break, Ron Moore.

And you fanboys need to face reality: The proposed spinoff of "Caprica" will never happen. As a prequel, it won't sell to a Sci-Fi Channel audience, because there's nothing remotely interesting about the pre-BSG era. Besides, the boneheads who run Sci-Fi would rather spend their money on more shows like "Painkiller Jane" and "Mansquito." A spinoff series would have half the budget and half the acting talent. So, don't get your hopes up, unless you want to see Stephen Baldwin as the lead.

Battlestar Galactica is now a lackluster drama set in the framework of an old Science Fiction series. Ron Moore has written himself into a corner and the show has nowhere to go. Everyone is a freakin' Cylon now and fans are starting to walk away from the show anyway. From the craptacular acting, the claustrophobic sets, poor costuming, and horrendous "shaky cam" special effects, this show had a limited time to stay in audience's minds. Years from now, people will look back at this show and laugh at how dated it looks. Season 4 will only be beating a dead horse.

I'm sure Ron Moore may try to beef up the action and have a spectacular ending, but it's too late. Someone earlier mentioned Babylon 5 being good and I have to agree. Seasons 2-4 kick the living crap out of anything I've seen on BSG and that show is much older. Ron Moore is a hack writer and I think it's funny that he's acting like this ending was intentional. Someone above Ron Moore's head called the shots on this ending, because if it were up to him, it would keep going like the pathetic Stargate series. I suspect the issue was money and the Sci-Fi execs want a cheaper show in the BSG timeslot. End of story.

Everything about this show is brilliant... If the creators think it's time to end then it's probably a good call. I think the pace of the story arcs are such that it'd be hard to wring out another season and while I love the show and would like to see that kind of quality for many more seasons I also think the shorter run creates a more intense feeling as it all comes to a close...

I am SAD to see it go but want to see the show go out right.

Babalon 5 was allowed to go out right. It's spinoff's were not.

STNG was allowed to go out right and STDS9 maybe? But Enterprise was not.

They just cancled Studio 60 and that wasn't right.

Let them finish the story and use it as a model for other TV show remakes.

I wouldn't mind seeing a better spin on "V" or Buck Rodgers. How about a new million dollar man. the late 60's and 70's had a lot a good ideas for shows but didn't have the means to do them right. Remember when people were mad that starbuck was going to be a woman. Now look...

So I hope a few BG movies get made and Scifi tries to make a few more shows that are worth watching. I'm pretty much done with TV. There's a few more years in for me before I just tune out completely.

To the naive people that think the show is "getting canceled" or a bad idea to end it let me say this:

What you want, a fan-service show where things are done because the fan think it so and the series loses its creative spirit? All of these shows sooner or later run out of their questions and have a conclusion- or else they become as braindead as endless movie sequels.

I for one I am *GLAD* that both the writters/creators for their decision and for the Sci Fi network for supporting them. BIG HUGE kudos to them.

To continue a series for the sake of making money or for masturbatory fan fantasies is a HUGE mistake that takes away the creative flair of anything and we end up with soulless trash TV.

AGAIN Kudos to the creators for doing the right thing.

This is not about a show getting canceled. It's about finishing a book or trilogy of books. Imagine if this was The Lord of The Rings.. wha tyou want later on? "The King's Men and the Hobbit Friends: Adventure in Middle Earth Post Sauron Age?"

- Raist

so bummed its the last season

so happy for the last season

at least I won't be hanging for 20 or 30 years like last time :) Waiting to see if they ever find Earth.

Sad to see this vanishing...

Well, history repeats itself. What did you expect? Producers and TV Execs killed the original series, and they're doing it again. Different set of execs, same end result. Back in the 70's, that network (which shall remain nameless) forced the original series' ratings to drop in an effort to kill it (too expensive and too big of risk they thought...'its not what the public wants'..uh...right, lets replace it with "Buck Rogers") and despite the outcry from many loyal fans to bring it back managed to sink it for good (driving a stake through its heart with the fortunately forgetable...with therapy..."Galactica 1980"). Hopefully, this incarnation won't suffer that fate....an honourable ending and maybe a good mini-series re-visit (or two) in the future would be nice.

After the cancelations of "Farscape", "Firefly", and "Stargate:SG-1", this was my only reason to watch Sci-Fi, or cable in general. "Stargate: Atlantis" probably won't be far behind on the hit list, and now "Galactica" has been nixed. And all they're replacing these shows with is cookie-cutter crap. Sci-Fi has lost the originality that made it so cool. Might as well hang it up now and just wait for the DVD collections...without all thise annoying 'Sci-Fi Original' B-movie commercials.

Its one of the only good things to watch on tv and they are ending it! I don't understand why they won't wait until the end of a fifth season to pull the plug considering a show needs the five year minimum to qualify for royalties for reruns.

A depressing series of events indeed.

I love the show. It definately put an exclamation point on my SciFi Fridays. Then it was something to stay up for on Sunday nights. If they are going to end it after the 4th season. I just hope they do it right and a million frackin times better than the origional series did with Galactica 1980.

With SG-1 almost out the door and now Galactica, the SciFi channel may drop from my most favorite list.....

I'm sad the show has to end.
But "better to burn out than to fade away".
I allway's missed the end of BSG1!!

Can not wait until S4E1,....

Dave The Netherlands

I hate that is ending, I did not even know it was until I found out over the web. While I say I hate that it is ending but then again I am in a small way glad, they did not do a good job in keeping anything like the old show. I did not have to be an overlay of the old show but it could have referenced it alittle more.
The actor where prefect for there roles, the role of Adoma, prefect match for the actor, he was a natureal.
I hate to see it go and I hope that this 4th season will be as they say going out with a bang, The only thing I want to know is when will this 4th season start?????

I want BSG movies!!

BG kept me on the edge of my seat for the whole first season, and most of the 2nd. The humans-fleeing-cylons and looking-for-earth storyline can't keep going any longer, though, because tension has just disappeared, and the 3rd season was an unnecessary soap-opera-like exploitation of the success of the series. It wasn't even good at that.

Good news that they are wrapping up the series. There is still a chance that they will bring back the great experience of seasons 1 and 2, but I have my reservations after season 3 lost it so badly. At the very least, though, I expect to be entertained by season 4, although I suspect it will be mostly because of the remarkable memories of the beginnings of the series. Also, we know now the producers won't artificially over-extend the series or come up with too many filler episodes, which is acceptable enough in advance for me.

As for the future, BSG has set a great precedent for series to come. Focus on a TV-level top-class plot and characters, and we will have more successful series like BSG. I particularly believe the BSG universe itself has a great potential for many more ground-breaking stories.

4 seasons is hardly enough to satisfy me. BSG is one most unique shows to grace the airwaves and the best show Sci-Fi has ever produced and it blows me to see the show end prematurely. I know it's best to have the show end on the writers terms as opposed to suddenly getting canceled one day due to low ratings but I can't help but feel that if the show was more popular in North America we'd get more than 4 seasons. Jack Bauer has saved the day 6 times already, with 2 more seasons on the way. I'm not knocking 24, actually I like it better than BSG, but how can that story arc last for 8 seasons while BSG only gets 4. If Ronald D. Moore, David Eick and crew were giving the budget and resources the show deserves then it would be less stress on the production team resulting in an even higher quality show than produced now. BSG's story is too dynamic to be told in 4 seasons I think 5 would be the minimum the show needs to flesh out and end the story. Considering how long it took Sci-Fi to renew the show for a 4th season (at first a mere 13 eps before a full season of 22) and Sci-Fi admittedly changing the show's time slot to boast ratings it is obviously clear that due to the low ratings in North America the show is ending period. Also, thank you NBC for betting the farm on Heroes and ignoring the shows you already have.

I think anyone paying attention to the show, or listened to RDMs podcasts about humanitys 3act structure to narratives realized the next season would probably be the last. I was really hoping for a season 5 but after crosroads2 it seems insane to push it beyond season 4. I kind of feel like its the last week of summer camp and I know I haveto say goodbye to my crush. at least this way, when the complete box set comes out, I can barricade myself in my apartment and watch the whole series over a long weekend(ala arrested development).

now a note to you season 3 haters....first, I notice most of you are bab5 fans. in full disclosure, Ive always held contempt for you guys so im not surprised. season 3 was ment to be dark and angsty, thats part of RDMs 3 act structure he talks about. think Empire Strikes Back. and I think it worked wonderfully. Exodus2, measure of salvation, hero, the last 4 episodes! it was a solid season with minimal filler. Even the crappy helo episode wasnt nearly as tedious as pretty much any Lost episode (which I like begrudgingly and refuse to recommend to anyone not already roped into it).

BSG is a masterpiece. easily one of the best story ever told.

I'm wondering why no one is questioning the announcement of BSG's imminent demise. Remember the disinformation campaign that preceded the "death" of Starbuck? This show still has many possibilities, and one final season, even 22 episodes, will not even remotely address all of them. In addition, there is a very plausible scenario that could lead to the show's continuation even if David, Ron, Edward and Katee are levelling with us for a change. Let's say, for example, that the assumption that BSG is about to die raises viewer interest. Let's also suppose that season four is superior in quality to season three (not hard to imagine, unfortunately). Don't you think the suits at Sci-Fi would think again about cancelling the series? I sure do. Personally, I think seven is a luckier number than four.

Fraking life... wars in the world, ebola, aids, and now this... you really want to take my only piece of happiness since Asimov's Foundations... Please guys don't do that. Gods... Reconsider. Even my cat loves the show.

I am, like most of you, very disappointed that BSG is coming to an end. But to be fair, I would much rather they end it with a bang than let it go on and on and die with a fizzle and little puff of smoke.

In my opinion BSG is what Star Trek should have been - more drama, more character building, excellent special effects/space sequences and seeing how they handle real-life issues. I.e. not so much focus on aliens, technobabble and impossible technologies (with the exception of FTL and Cylons - they are part of the story and theoretically may be possible)

I heard today about the new Star Trek film slated to start production next year - let's hope the new set of writers are BSG fans and the next installment to the Star Trek saga is as good as BSG.

i'll never let that show to end, even if i'll have to star in it !!!!!!!! Battlestar galactica, please.. you have so much more to tell!!!

chant for new episodes !!! COME ON

Sad news indeed. it was the best show on television.

BSG: finally a show with some intelligent dialogue, that addresses complex topics such as human morality, the distinction between the military and the police (Posse Comitatus act), and numerous other subtleties of the human experience. It's too bad that money (expensive show to produce) is the bottom line. If BSG's future hinged on quality, surely there would be more than four seasons. Unfortunately the tyranny of the bottom line (Ralph Estes) in this case means the end of BSG, but given the drivel that consumes most American's TV time and attention, this is not surprising. I'm at least thankful to have seen a show where you could hear things like "there's a reason we separate the military and the police..." and see that torture and dehumanization is/are invariably (and always) wrong. Thank you RDM?David Eick and the cast of BSG for a show with dialogue, plotlines, and themes that are a cut above the rest of the garbage that's usually on TV.

As they say in the movie business: "it's better to leave your audience wanting more, than having too much."

Could it be that Fantasy genre becomes increasingly more popular (LOTR, etc) at the cost of Sci-Fi?

I really do empathize with the creators on this. They may have needed to improvise on stories from season to season, but that is the nature of the beast and business. What they set out to do from day one was to tell a story, and it's sad for us because it is an enjoyable story.

I would have rather seen them play it out in five seasons, and I especially agree with what has been mentioned about even cutting the episode count down. So many great epics are played in five acts, and for where they are at, I think they would be able to tell the story better.

The real crying shame is that for two people to come out and blaze this trail, they have met with unrelenting resistance, and have been still significantly successful in their product.

From my experience, when you are a lone voice for a good cause, that resistance really wears a person down, and I am sadly suspicious that they have cut things down to 4 seasons because they are tired.

To you, the loyal fans, give them credit for their efforts which have been good. For you the disappointed fans, try taking what you can from the show and thank them for it (season 3 may have been more stagnate, but that was the point, since we all go through periods of stagnation and confusion).

To the people who make this thing happen, I hope you will consider splitting the final season and really getting to the bottom of what makes us tick, and finish with finality that we can accept.

That would be the mark of a great story.

Finally after all these years some Decent Television and it ends in the fourth round, Yet all the rubbish will run for years to come,
What the hell happened to this world.

Frell,frack,and crap.
I can see why it needs to end,but i still cant bring myself to like it.I was floored when farscape bellied up.At least i wont be blindsided this time.I guess it will be fun to watch knowing the climax is just around the corner.Of coarse, one must remember that farscape was deemed to expensive and hard to follow and that is why it died so unexpectedly.Oh well,i guess this will open the door for the next series......

Motherfrakker it cant end!

I was a fan of the original show, and it's a shame that they can't find something new to do with it. I mean, star trek had it's spinnoffs... why not have them land on earth in the future? And find that the earth has evolved into something terribly wrong? How about they land on earth in the year 1000? - FRAK!!! They have to do something to keep this great show going!!!

George Lewis

I think it is good.

In the one extreme if a show stops mid-story it sucks (which sometimes happen). The other extreme TV shows could also tend to overstay it's welcome (Lost anybody ? And Prison Break is going that way too.). This show will have a good finale (or it better :-D). This will mean that the whole concept does not get watered down but remains a classic.

Rather have another good concept for a TV show, then milk this one for all it's worth. It does not even have to be that original (as BSG and Stargate can attest)

Steve

BSG is a amazing fraking great show!!
From the miniseries till season 3 it wants you to see more.
I think season 4 will be the best although its sad that it will be the last season (if it will)

Toasters forever!

hi
i am glad its closing out, it was dumb anyway, not much interesting, more like asoap opra and that sucked, thank God

I'm actually ok with this being the last season. I've heard the rumors for awhile, so I'm not too surprised. I also trust the writers enough to know that when it ends, it's going to end big. This show has been one of the most satisfying in terms of acting, writing and story developement. Thanks for ending on a high note.

I can't believe they are ending BSG after season 4. How many Stargate / Stargate derivatives does scifi have? Hasn't Stargate been on for like over 10 years or something.

How would you like to go to a hockey game with the Chief?

That's right, our own Aaron Douglas will take one fan to a Canucks hockey game, along with another buddy of his up in Vancouver. And how can you score this treat? Simple. By going to Pencils2MediaMoguls.com and buying as many boxes of pencils as you can. On the first page (which is a subset of United Hollywood) you'll see a place to identify which show you're supporting. Type in "BSG Aaron Douglas" and we'll enter your name into a raffle, with the lucky winner getting to attend the hockey game with Aaron.

In case you haven't heard, the Pencils Campaign is designed to send a huge amount of pencils to the major studios as a symbol of fan support for the strike. More information can be found on their website. www.pencils2mediamoguls.com

Mary McDonnell, Tricia Helfer, Michael Hogan, Jamie Bamber, and Michael Trucco have all agreed to make a personal phone call to fans who win the raffles in their names. The way this will work is simple: when you go to the Pencils site, the first box you’ll see asks you the name of the show you wish to support. Type in “Battlestar Galactica” and then the name of one of these actors, and your name will then be automatically entered into a raffle, with the winner in each category receiving a personal phone call from that actor. You can certainly buy boxes of pencils for more than one actor, but each box can only be assigned one name.

Also, in the event that the winner of the Aaron Douglas raffle is not in Vancouver, or cannot travel there (on their own dime), Aaron has offered to make a personal phone call to that fan and send a piece of signed memorabilia.

This is a really great and generous offer from our cast members and it could be a once in a life-time chance to get to talk to them, so take advantage of the opportunity and help us drown the moguls in pencils.

so there ending the best show on tv?? its sad but i too would rather see a show as good as bsg end with a bang than go out with a whisper! damn!! im gonna miss bsg

NBC has killed sci-fi channel....My friends and family used to watch sci-fi channel all night on friday.

Now that nbc has destroyed SG1, SG1-Atlantis, and now BG, there is no reason to watch sci-fi channel anymore.

I just might dis-connect TV

FRAK, I'm pissed. Another good Space series gone!!
Star Trek Enterprise was another good one and its gone.
Anyone know which channel and which night they are
showing the new season of BSG? I have Star Choice and
they are repeating last season on some channels, where and
when is the new season, cant find it.....HELP!
Huge Space Fan thanx you in advance.
Fiona

The aim was set in Season0 Episod2 - "Find Earth !" ... So cylon StarBuck found Earth! ... The aim is reached , ... so now what? Set New Goal?
+ Season3 was really boaring at times - no food starving episod? What's that? Soap Opera? Social Problems - poor colonies, rich colonies? Again Soup Opera ?
+ Season3 "Sol Thigh is cylon?" How Come - He is in fleet from 45 years ... Before first cylon wars. StarBuck is cylon? And chief? ... Not that there is some proof that they are ? At least I did not see any proof that they are , but .... If All the major characters are cylons? .... How can the story continue? ... Because cylons did win!

that's kind of weird that they are ending this show, there are so many more things they can go with it. I guess it has something to do with the US dollar falling relative to the Canadian dollar.
They do most of the filming for this show in Vancouver British Columbia and i guess its just getting more expensive to work there.

Sad, Hollywood has such little to offer in anything yet in a good Scfi. I disagree, keep it going for another season or two. One of the very few shows I make time for.

Yeah the middle of season 3 wasn't as good but the first episode in s4 looks pretty good. I think they should hire some more writters and create one more season. End it at 5. 4 seems a little short.

As there's nothing else on Tv watching these days apart from Family guy, The Simpsons and Curb your Enthusiasm, really isn't anything else that comes to mind.

They killed off Star Trek too early. The rest of the star treks were crap, TNG was ok but no where near TOS. Firefly ended way too early. Farscape was crap in there final season but i think if they gave them a little notice it would have been a good one rather then the peacekeeper wars.

I've been hearing good things about that "Greek" show, have to check it out.

Lost + Prison Break Sucked. Stargate ALL sux. How the hell do people watch American Idle and BB? enough of this rant.

Give us one more season, end it on 5.

Bring back Firefly and Futurama. Why the hell did they put on American Dad vs Futurama?

I'm just going to go home after work and go straight to bed! BSG gave me a reason to look forward to coming home- besides seeing my husband and my 2 dogs! My husband and I have seen all the episodes up to the end of season 3, which was semi-lame- but we didn't mind. The way that certain people found out that they were Cylons through a lame-ass song was disappointing! Wow. WTF! We haven't seen the most recent episodes, but we are excited about them. I wanted to be on this show! Now I will never be. Could I be Seven in a spin-off? Ronald Moore- I want to be on your next show!! Please keep us entertained! Even if there are episodes that aren't well written! Please just throw it together and it will still be good! We'll miss our BSG.

This show was way too violent. I tried to watch it and could not. I prefer the original BSG series. Stargate SG1 was an EXCELLENT series and so was Bablyon 5. I'm glad this series is going off the air many of the original BSG fans have come to really dislike the series due to the excessive violence and use of rape as torture in the series. We don't need to see that on TV. That's supposed to be good quality science fiction? Certainly NOT. I'm very glad that Larson has the movie rights to BSG. Hopefully we can get a really good quality BSG movie and forget that this terrible remake ever existed.

Series finale spoiler: The last episode will feature a return of the curse word 'Feldercarb'
I say, it's about Frakkin time!!!

Season 4 of battlestar = big steaming pile of crap. I'm disappointed. It was a great series until they tried to turn it into lost.

Well it is about Frakkin time. This show started out with a bang. I loved it. I loved the Sharon characters, and the whole nine yards. Season two was OK. But Season 3, 4 was absolutely horrible, horrible. Incredibly unrealistsic. it made me puke each night I watched it. Infact the only reason I kept watching it, was because Sharon is so damn hott. I like the president too. She is hot. THE PRODUCERS SHOULD HAVE KEPT WITH THE ORIGINAL STORY FROM THE 70'S.
Starbuck Is Suppose To Be A Guy. Not a Tomboyish snotnose girl.
That was horrible, horibble. I AM SO GLAD THAT THIS SHOW IS COMING TO AN END.

SAD fan is truly sad. go back to church and stfu. BSG is amazing.

Man, i cant believe that it is ending in the fourth season. I thought there will be a fifth season since it still has quite a number of roots to chose from etc, sharon's kid and the vision shared by sharon, the president and the sixth, reaching earth with the rebel cylons and human(and wat will happen when the other cyclons find earth too?!) , the 13th colony.. what happen to them, the lastest episodes showed that there cities seem to be abadoned when they reached earth.

oh well, it is a great miniseries, an intellectual one! LOVE TO SEE IT GO OUT WITH A BANG!

FRAK, I'm depressed. I just got into this show last season and bam it's done. The episode where they find earth better NOT be the ending episode!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Where are the rest of the episode, it has been a couple months since I've seen anything. They changed their time, but I haven't seen any posted online?
