Well, its been a while since we’ve released a parody/satire video, but the hiatus ends as EA literally handed us an ammo box by deciding to charge EXTRA for WEAPONS in a FIRST PERSON SHOOTER. Hit the jump and see the vid! Thanks for your help and your diggs.

      :L Funny video.

You’re making too much a meal of this though lol. The game will sell as normal with maps, weapons etc. EA will release PACKS of additional weapons later on for a suitable fee should you wish to buy it. You’ll still get tons of weapons on it like you get in other games. But their will be extra weapons out later if you wish for a small fee.

People are going on about how the want more DLC other than just maps, EA offer a solution now everyone complains. Boycotting the game is just stupid.

Extra weapons in DLC is just like extra cars in DLC. You’re not complaining about that? They’re will be plenty of weapons in the game, EA are offering to give you extra weapons later on should you want to extend gameplay/ getting tired of the same weapons.

      ajnokia

Personally I’m fine with DLC being just maps but when you charge for something like weapons then I think you’re going too far.

    • 18 Saccia // Mar 30, 2008 at 2:41 pm

I’m fine with DLC maps as well. I think the only discussion ever had about new maps was the cost of it. Publishers are still figuring out pricing for things. I think the pricing of maps has gotten a little better and settled on a more fair price. I think the GHII track prices were ridiculous and hence I haven’t bothered to look at it for GHIII.

I don’t think ANYONE has thought anything else than “this is crap” for “horse armor” items. To be fair, the original “horse armor” was Bethesda trying to figure this whole DLC thing out. People blew up about it and Bethesda reacted correctly and made sure they didn’t release crap like that again. EA can’t claim ignorance. They’ve had games with DLC out for a long time. This is an explicit attempt to leech out more than $60 for items that SHOULD ALREADY BE IN THE GAME.

@ajnokia: No, DLC is fine. If they added extra weapons to CoD4 right now, this day - I wouldn’t have a problem with it.
If they released CoD4 with those weapons in the menu telling you to buy them when you highlighted them - then I would have a problem.

This isn’t about them trying to nickel and dime us - every company does that. This is about them trying to nickel and dime us -before the game even comes out.-

Obviously, they’re pretty far in the development of said weapons to already have them in the beta menus. So I’d wager that instead of Downloadable Content, it’s Pay-to-Unlock Content that’s already on the disc.

They certainly have enough time to put it on there.

I don’t see the problem. How is this worse then charging for cars in Forza or maps in COD?

    • 47 Scarykidd182 // Mar 31, 2008 at 10:26 am

You guys are awesome. EA is completely out of line. I had a problem with DLC when Grand Turrismo 4 (I think) cam out, where you had to download most of the maps and cars and pay for all of them, and I have a problem with micro transactions now. It’s bullcrap. If you’re going to give us more content I would be happier with a price increase, but don’t take away content and then expect us to pay more.

    • 48 Habadasher // Mar 31, 2008 at 10:37 am

      @Jon

It’s clearly far worse because the guns are actually ready NOW, already developed and probably already on the disc!

Maps in Call of Duty and Cars in Forza are added after the game is finished..
The Bad Company guns however are being released with the game as dlc

    • 49 {CLR}-MIKE // Mar 31, 2008 at 10:52 am

Hey Lono, hopefully this will get enough diggs to appear on the diggnation.com podcast this week. How cool would that be?

Apart from having the microtransactions, the game itself isn’t that great. Granted this is a beta, but to me it’s not as fun as past BF games. There’s no frickin’ prone for crying out loud!

    • 54 Lono // Mar 31, 2008 at 11:34 am

      Cool, I guess… Digg has a podcast?

    • 55 darkwonders // Mar 31, 2008 at 11:45 am

      Yup. It’s a video podcast.
      http://revision3.com/diggnation/

It’s run by Kevin Rose and Alex Albrect. Every week they take about 3 highly dug show (usually in the thousands, so this one has a good chance, and it’s an interesting topic to talk about) and they spend about 10 minutes or so talking about each story they pick. And I’m sure there’s a bunch of people who watch the show as digg.com is a popular place. Perhaps you could send them an email to see if they do requests for other sites… Dunno if they will but it can’t hurt to ask.

    • 59 Edgecrusher // Mar 31, 2008 at 2:34 pm

Remember, the cake is a lie!

      (Sorry, wrong thread)

Anywho, to add my $0.02 to the mix - EA have been charging for extra content in the Battlefield Universe for ages - I for one bought into all that on BF2 - I have: -

BF2 Special Forces. - some nice touches - night maps for one.
BF2 European Forces. - again, some nice little extras/weapons etc.
BF2 Armored Fury - here’s where things started to go wrong - The few new tanks were awesome - as was the A10 tankbuster - but it was all let down by the fact that you had to drive around the pissy little white-picket-straight-out-of-lost-fences I mean, how gay was that?

Anywho, although I do have a copy of BF2142, I haven’t purchased the “Extras” for it, and have no intention of ever doing so. I do think it’s a good way (for us gamers) to ensure continued support of a title that will eventually get long in the tooth - see Warcrack for example - and at the end of the day, if you’re not prepared to shell out then you don’t have to.

It’s like watching tv; if you don’t like what’s on, change the station…

    • 60 Sjoberg // Mar 31, 2008 at 2:51 pm

      This is maddnes!!!

    • 61 darkwonders // Mar 31, 2008 at 2:56 pm

Edgecrusher, the extras for 2142 had maps and weapons in the same package. Granted that is stretching it a bit, but they still had to create new maps and weapons. BF:BC already has the weapons created. They’re charging for extra things right when the game is released, not months down the line when they’ve spent time to create new things.

When you see an online game in the store for 60 bucks you should add another 20 or 30 dollars because thats what its going to cost you in the end.

    • 77 Steve // Apr 1, 2008 at 1:43 am

It’s alright saying if you don’t like it don’t buy it but people like that are driving the problem because they can’t shell out for it fast enough. ESPECIALLY if they think there’s an advantage to be had.
Next thing you know they be trying to get us to buy ammo for our guns like it’s a goddamned paint ball match. I predicted YEARS ago that this is where micro-transactions were going to head in a hurry so you can just imagine my shock here.

This is ridiculous. COD4 includes all the weapons in the game and its the best FPS ever. Do not charge for all this garbage. If you want people to never to buy an other EA game go ahead and do this. It is the dumbest thing I have ever heard of. I was actually going to buy this game, but not any more. I like a game that includes all the weapons.

COD4 looks way better, and has all the guns! I can’t stand EA, I don’t need this game.

    • 109 Randomguy7131 // Apr 9, 2008 at 1:02 am

I’m not a fan of ‘microtransactions’ but at the same time this boycott makes no sense. The weapons they are offering for download are not required to enjoy the full game. They are also -included- with the “Gold” edition AND are being provided free if you pre-order the game. There are far worse offenders of pay DLC. I love CoD4, but their map pack is basically forced on anyone who plays online because if you don’t have them, you’re gunna get booted any time one of those maps is getting loaded up. Pick your battles.

Wow, can you smell the hesitation on the Joystiq forums?

1)You honestly think EA is going to stop at FIVE WEAPONS in this game? HELL NO. Let’s see - Godfather, NFS Carbon, Tgier Woods 07 and 08, NFS ProStreet, FIFA 08. Should I go on?

And it is not just EA - check out Namco and Komani titles on the 360 too.

2)What you are reading on the Joystiq forums is BAD COMEDY. You can tell Joystiq and its affiliates MUST HAVE AN EA DAY COMING because they are REAAAALLLLLYYYY trying to make people not join in on this boycott.

Gee, you think Knuckles Dawson gets to be “Achivo” boy yet again? You know, FLY OUT THERE AND PLAY IT, THEN HYPE IT UP for Joystiq and their MULTIPLE PODCASTS.

This is not a new pattern, we just happen to pick the game that Joystiq wants to spooge all over. And since there is a consensous to actually NOT buy this game, I AM REALLY PERPLEXED by the hesitation…

Makes you wonder JUST WHAT KICKBACKS the Joystiq gang is getting from EA.

3)Funny that Joystiq has called for avoidance of games before, but all of sudden for this game, everyone should “just chill”. Memo to Joystiq - F**K YOU. This is another EA breadcrumb type game, and this time because it is a FPS JOYSTIQ WANTS TO PLAY, we should actually let EA ream us.

Are you pissed at Joystiq? I would be too. This is as close to selling out on your principles as you can get without actually wearing an EA sweatsuit while eating EA cookies and sitting on an EA recliner in your EA approved trailer.

Understand, Namco killed Katamari using a similar tactic. We have had ENOUGH examples of this type of DLC gone wrong, and personally I am fed up with this “psuedo-ethics” BULLSH1T sites seems to want to employ when it comes to certain games and certain companies.

Remember, GEARS OF WAR once got a 10 - even though the reviewer kept finding issues with the game.

Something stinks here, and it is coming from Joystiq’s integrity…

XBox 360 - I bet Joystiq’s editors already have the GLOWING BETA WRITEUPS in their hands already…

Ok, first off I got made fun of for my name a lot growing up so don’t add to it please…-I wish I was named Daisy Duke.

As for BFBC, I have played the game quite frequently (my brother owns it and a ps3) so I can say as someone who has bought previous BF games, this one is NOT a BF game. It is an arcade game for consols. Despite the destructible enviroments, the graphics are pretty terrible all around. And sometimes on a server you might think that your team is a bunch of monkeys. That being said, its prolly worth the money, it is a lot of fun online and obviosly you don’t buy the extra weapons (speaking of which in my countless hours of playing the game I have only seen one person with one, a F200 I think, everyone else who plays BF:BC doesn’t really use them so it just as balanced as it would be). Also you can pick up the kits featuring the aforementioned purchasable weapons even if you haven’t bought them your self. So moral of the story, just kill the noob, take his gun, and think to yourself that its like taking candy from an ugly EA baby.

As for the rest of the BF franchise, it too is pretty much going to hell in a handbag with the exception of some pretty sweet mods being released. I bought BF 1942 and expansions, awesome all around; BF vietnam- worth the money but online play was pretty bad when I first bought it; BF2- bought it, played it for a month, set it down and never picked it up again (no I didn’t buy the bad expansions); BF2142- I thot it was awesome at first, but to be honest it became really boring after just a couple months, mostly because it was just so far from realistic it was pathetic. I think that sums it up.

      thanks,
      Harry S. Crotum
